A Village in Lachine is introducing Montreal’s first cohousing project based on social innovation and diversity. This mixed-income community brings together 58 units, split between cost-price ownership and affordable rentals, encouraging the daily sharing of spaces, services, and resources.
At the heart of the project, the common house takes center stage, offering residents welcoming gathering places, shared services, and abundant opportunities to connect. Drawing inspiration from Lachine’s landscape and identity, the architecture adopts a pavilion-style layout that blends seamlessly into the urban fabric. A thoughtful transition in building heights and a reinterpretation of mansard roofs reflect the neighbourhood’s character, while glassed-in walkways link the volumes, maximizing natural light and incorporating local materials.
The spaces are designed for flexible use, both in private units and common areas, allowing them to adapt over time to residents’ changing needs and activities.
